Some say his sound is perfect for losing yourself in the depths of a good game alone at night. Others would rather have a picnic on the roof of a car whilst listening to his songs and enjoying the sunset. Somewhere in between, Tommy Barlow’s music conjures up peculiar atmospheres and doesn’t shy away from experimental approaches. Whether using modified acoustic guitars or field recordings, anthemic bagpipes or samples from countless contexts: What Barlow conjures up on his debut studio album, “Mustard Seeds” (2024), defies any classification and sounds like the long-lost recordings of a hermit in the British North – a minimally orchestrated demo tape for dropouts and recluses. At London venues such as The George Tavern, The Shacklewell Arms, and Spanners, his distinctively left-field aesthetic has unsurprisingly already brought tears to many an eye. Armed with the unconventional summer single “Earth Killer” (2026) and a host of fresh new tracks, he’s coming to Hamburg for the first time this year. But be warned: There’s a serious risk of addiction after just a few bars.
