For a few years now, The Boondocks have been dominating the Estonian indie scene with their powerful grooves and a style that combines the best of three different worlds. First and foremost are the gritty and incredibly versatile guitars, which on albums such as “Thriller” (2016) and “How To Build A Love Bomb” (2018) emerge from the speakers with a sound that lies somewhere between garage rock and Britpop. Over this come the distinctive vocals of Villem Sarapuu, who masters quiet, resonant passages just as effortlessly as powerful emotional outbursts. On later albums such as “Soup Can Pop Band” (2021) and last year’s “Silver Buzz” (2025), the ambitious quartet also blend influences ranging from Coldplay and Muse to early R&B and post-punk with the retro aesthetic of golden-age film soundtracks. The result is a unique kind of mental cinema that unfolds in the mind’s eye and that has led The Boondocks to become one of the most interesting bands in Estonia in the new 2020s.
