Amidst the clamour of yesterday, Roomer find the soundtrack for the here and now – music woven from sensuous distortion and melody, bittersweet longing and stoic acceptance. The Berlin-based trio weave shoegaze with slowcore, dream pop with a raw production that – amidst meandering riffs – gives just as much space to Ludwig Wandinger’s crisp drums as it does to the murmuring vocals of singer and guitarist Ronja Schößler. Indeed, this project is all about creating spaces in which we can lose ourselves and find ourselves again. The name, then, is no coincidence. Nor is it a coincidence that their debut album, “Leaving It All To Chance” (2024) – which navigates the tension between emotional directness and compositional experimentation – was realised with a success rarely seen in any other local shoegaze album of the recent past. It thus comes as no surprise that Roomer have already been counted amongst the most interesting newcomers at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London and the ESNS Festival in the Netherlands. With their second album, “Staircase Made Of Rope” (2026) – conjured up entirely from improvisations and first takes – they are finally making their Reeperbahn debut this year, presenting a sound that invites you to immerse yourself and drift away.
