With his perfect blend of fury and bite balanced with a healthy dose of warmth, wit and irony, Laurie Wright embodies the spirit of a true modern-day rock ‘n’ roller. And yet he’s hardly a household name. That’s despite this Brit in his fiddler’s cap putting out three good – no, three very good – albums in just three years, earning him a rapturous reception in clubs all the way from London to Leicester – and from people of all ages, from boomers to zoomers. Thanks to the outstanding song material on studio albums such as “We’re Only Warming Up” (2024) or “Power Of 3” (2025), even true legends have now noticed him. Liam Gallagher, for instance, has already publicly come out as a fan, but Rod Stewart and Pete Doherty also admire the talent of this young, thoroughbred musician, who even in appearance combines elements of sixties rockabilly and nineties Britpop. But there’s more to him than that. Inspired by blues and the impetuous DIY spirit of early indie heroes, Laurie Wright’s sound is like a passionate glance in the rear-view mirror, but also a brilliantly upbeat rejuvenation for first-class rock ‘n’ roll in the here and now. Armed with fresh material, he’ll be playing for us in Hamburg for the first time this year.
