With their debut single, “Teardrop” (2026), Girl in the Year Above not only made their mark on the UK Singles Chart at the start of the year but also delivered a brilliant cover of the Massive Attack classic, which was even praised by Robert Del Naja himself. The six-piece band from Ireland also effortlessly create a signature sound that blends modern art pop and cinematic folk into captivating fairy tales with a Celtic vibe – entirely free of kitsch yet full of grace and an outstanding flair for stirring drama. Their singles “Mama, My Heart Is Achin’” and “Ode To The Glory Days” (2026) – with which they confidently established their own songwriting style – also demonstrate just how much potential they have. And they’ve already proven this on BBC Introducing, RTE Radio, and in Rolling Stone. Now, they’re coming to us here in Hamburg with more new material before the hype really takes off.
