Hvað er? Fiskar og hafstraumar á Íslandsmiðum

This Wednesday, we dive into the ocean to learn about fish and how ocean currents shape their habitats and life cycles.

Fish stocks in Icelandic waters are diverse and have very different life histories, ranging from populations that remain close to Iceland year-round to migratory stocks that travel long distances to Icelandic waters in search of food. The lecture will explore the main fish stocks found around Iceland, where they are located, where they migrate, and where they spawn. It will also examine how the warm and cold ocean currents surrounding Iceland shape conditions in Icelandic waters and influence the distribution and migration patterns of fish.

Lísa Anne Libungan is a marine biologist with a PhD in fisheries science from the University of Iceland and has extensive experience in marine research, fish stock assessment, and teaching. She works as a fisheries scientist for the Federation of Icelandic Fishing Vessel Owners and is Chair of the Icelandic Natural History Society.
