Between the USA and the EU

This session of Fræðakaffi (Academic-café) will focus on international affairs. Greenland has been in the spotlight in recent months, and Valur Gunnarsson will discuss its position, along with that of Iceland and other countries.
Between the economic giants of the United States and Europe, a new region has emerged that belongs to neither side. It stretches from major economies such as the United Kingdom and Canada, to wealthy Norway, and smaller nations and territories such as the Faroe Islands, Greenland, and Iceland.
What does this new geopolitical situation mean? After the end of the Cold War, a similar region emerged between the European Union and Russia. Can we learn anything from that history?
Valur Gunnarsson is a historian and author of numerous books, including Bjarmalönd and Grænland og fólkið sem hvarf. His latest work, Frelsisbjarmar, examines the United States in the 21st century.
Fræðakaffi is a popular lecture and discussion series held at the Reykjavík City Library in Spöngin.
