  Born Orville Richard Burrell and raised in Kingston, Jamaica, Shaggy got his start as an MC in New York City’s burgeoning dancehall scene soon after moving to Brooklyn in his teens. Not long after serving four years in the U.S. Marines (including two tours of duty in the Middle East as part of Operation Desert Storm), he inked his first record deal and quickly scored a global crossover smash with “Oh Carolina.”

  As the only diamond-selling dancehall artist in music history, Shaggy, managed by the Cherrytree Music Company, has sold more than 40 million album units to date, in addition to landing eight singles on the Billboard Hot 100 and seven albums on the Billboard 200 (including four in the top 40).   Alborosie

  Alberto Dascola aka Alborosie is an Italian reggae singer, deejay and producer based in Kingston, Jamaica. He was born in Sicily in 1977 and in 1993, he formed a reggae band in Italy called Reggae National Tickets. He produced his biggest hit ‘Herbalist’ in 2006 and notably released several other singles as ‘Kingston Town’ , ‘Rastafari Anthem’, ‘Slam Bam’, ‘Life’ featuring Jah Cure and ‘Call Up Jah’ all on his own label Forward records.

  Vybz Kartel

  Vybz Kartel (real name Adidja Palmer) is a famous Jamaican dancehall deejay. The young Adidja was exposed to a wide variety of music from a tender age by two uncles who happened to be aspiring musicians themselves. Every weekend he would be treated to new musical offerings on his uncle's old component set, ranging from Sam Cooke to country and western ballads to Ninja Man, who became one of his musical heroes. At the age of 10 his favorites included artists as diverse as Ninja Man, Papa San, Charlie Chaplin, Will Smith and KRS-1, all of whose lyrics he would write down and study word-for-word, performing them later for the entertainment of friends. Deciding he wanted to be a deejay, he began writing his own lyrics at the age of 11.
