About
It’s not just Dermot Henry’s community-minded spirit that evokes the Laurel Canyon scene of the 1960s, with its legendary songwriters from both the US and the UK. Indeed, the 22-year-old’s shaggy-haired appearance and his poetic take on everyday life also evoke flashes of Nick Drake and Elliott Smith, whom Henry – at the tender age of 23 – already fully embodies. Thus, his 2026 debut EP, “Aiming Torches At The Sun”, contains five wonderfully authentic raw gems of contemporary alt-folk that immediately catch the ear and find their way into the heart with bittersweet conviction. After an eventful year in Paris – where he played in bars and on street corners – following acclaimed supporting gigs for the Irish band Kingfishr and rave reviews from the British music press, all paths are now truly open to Dermot Henry. It’s a good thing he decided to take a detour to Hamburg and bring his disarming songs to the stage here in September.
